LIFE-IP:N2K Revisited

Od ledna 2019 se výzkumná infrastruktura SoWa podílí na Integrovaném projektu LIFE pro soustavu Natura 2000 v České republice. Osmiletý rozsáhlý projekt s názvem LIFE-IP:N2K Revisited, zvaný Jedna příroda, bude financován velkou částí z evropského dotačního programu LIFE.

Celkový rozpočet projektu je 20 369 945 €. Hlavním příjemcem a koordinátorem je Ministerstvo životního prostředí ČR, partnery Agentura ochrany přírody a krajiny ČR, Centrum pro otázky životního prostředí Univerzity Karlovy, Ústav výzkumu globální změny AV ČR, v.v.i. (CzechGlobe) a  Biologické centrum AV ČR, v.v.i. (VI SoWa).

Hlavním cílem projektu je vytvořit efektivnější systém managementu pro soustavu lokalit Natura 2000 v České Republice prostřednictvím naplňování Prioritního akčního rámce pro soustavu Natura 2000 v ČR 2014-2020, který stanovuje prioritní opatření plynoucí ze směrnice 92/43/EHS „o stanovištích“ a směrnice 2009/147/ES „o ptácích“, tedy základních evropských předpisů v ochraně přírody.

Biologické centrum – výzkumná infrastruktura SoWa se bude v rámci projektu podílet na hodnocení socio-ekonomických přínosů soustavy Natura 2000, bude spolupracovat na několika případových studiích. V rámci projektu budou pracovníci SoWa provádět metaanalýzu dostupných dat s cílem  zpřesnit a doplnit naše znalosti o klíčových faktorech ovlivňujících přírodní procesy, které  určují ekosystémové služby a popsat vztah mezi těmito řídícími faktory a výstupy příslušných procesů  v biofyzikálních jednotkách. Následně budou zkoumat možnosti využití těchto poznatků pro prostorovou aproximaci  ekologických funkcí, resp. jim odpovídajících ekosystémových služeb.

The N2K Revisited project, called One nature, will establish a more effective management system for the EU Natura 2000 network of protected areas in Czechia. Monitoring shows that current trends are insufficient to meet the targets of the EU biodiversity strategy to 2020. For instance, more than 80% of the country’s protected habitats and around 70% of its listed species are in an ‘unfavourable-bad’ status, according to official reports. The new project will link appropriate management more effectively with corresponding planning, based on accurate assessments of the status and trends for species and habitats, accompanied by cooperation with land users. It will also make effective use of knowledge of the benefits provided by natural capital to society and take into account relevant costs. In addition to its own budget, the project will facilitate the coordinated use of complementary funding (at least € 4.3 million) through schemes administered by the environmental sector and the national rural development programme.

Coordinator of the project is Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic, partners are Nature Conservation Agency of the Czech Republic, Charles University Environment Centre, Global Change Research Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CzechGlobe) and Biology Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences – RI SoWa.

Biology Centre CAS – Research Infrastructure SoWa will contribute to the evaluation of the socio-economic benefits of the Natura 2000 network and will work on several case studies. As part of the project, RI SoWa staff will perform meta-analysis of available data to refine and complement our knowledge of key factors affecting natural processes that determine ecosystem services and describe the relationship between these control factors and the outputs of relevant processes in biophysical units. Subsequently, they will explore the possibilities of using this knowledge for spatial approximation of ecological functions, resp. ecosystem services corresponding to them.
