I am an environmental microbiologist interested in unraveling microbiome related functions of soil on mechanistic level. Studying pure cultures of microorganisms in laboratory conditions brings a lot of key knowledge to the soil functioning but does not answer all our questions. Interactions between (micro)organisms seems to be crucial in understanding soil. But how to find a way among myriads of soil life forms? Integrating phenotypic data with genomics, metagenomics metabolomics and other gives us a chance to decipher biological systems as complicated as soil. In my current work I am studying interactions between Actinobacteria and soil fauna mediated by volatile compounds. I am also interested in the relation between millipede gut microbiome and soil microbiome.
